- 30% of American workers are “engaged”
- 70% of American workers are “not engaged” or “actively disengaged”
- 52% of American workers are not engaged
- 18% of American workers are actively disengaged
- Gallup estimates that actively disengaged employees cost the U.S. between $450 – $550 billion a year in lost productivity.
- These percentages have not changed appreciably since Gallup began surveying the workforce in 2000
Our principles for the creation of an engaged workforce:
- Safety and Security are the foundation of human needs (Maslow) – Safety is a great place to build engagement
- Leaders must model the engagement behaviors
- Find employees that are already engaged – especially those that have peer respect
- Partner on a project to create an example of what involved/engaged employees can accomplish
- Celebrate – Communicate – Educate
- Preserve the trust – protect the flock
- Bring along others that are new or not engaged
- Achieving “Critical Mass” is necessary
